Associate Degree Programme

Description of the Programme

The Associate Degree in Ministerial Studies is a first level qualification for persons responding to a call to the pastoral/parish ministry. It is therefore aimed at preparing persons for the parish ministry, institutional chaplaincy and international mission engagement.

Requirements

• All applicants for admission to read for the Associate degree normally must possess at least 5 CXC CSEC, or its equivalent. The subjects must include English language. • Students recommended by the participating denomination who do not possess this qualification will be required to sit an entrance examination administered by the college.

• Mature students without the requisite qualification may also be admitted to the programme by the college.

• The specialized nature of the programme require all applicants to submit a letter of recommendation from her/his church/denomination. A completed application with the required application fee, certified copies of examination results and letters of recommendation must be submitted to the college by June 30th .

Applicants may be required to attend an interview Duration of the Programme

The programme is normally two (2) years of full-time study inclusive of at least one summer semester, in which the student will participate in a programme of supervised ministry. The programme can be completed part time over a four year period.

Overview of the Curriculum To be awarded an Associate degree the student will be required to complete sixty-six (66) credits distributed as follows:

1. Biblical Studies (18 Credits) The required courses are listed as follows:

• THEO 1004 Geographical and Cultural World of the Bible. (3)

• THEO 1002 Introduction to the New Testament OR THEO 1103 Contemporary Approaches to Bible Study (3)

• THEO 1010 Introduction to Greek (3)

• THEO 2004 Foundations of Biblical Hebrew (3) Any other two (2) level 2 Biblical Studies Courses

2. Historical Studies (3) • THEO 1103 History of the Early Church from Pentecost to Charlemagne (3)

3. Theological and Ethical Studies (9) The pre-requisite is:

• THEO 1301 Introduction to Theology Any two (2) Theology Courses taken from the following:

• THEO 2303 Contemporary Christology and Soteriology
